Prof. CP Mishra MD, PhD, FIPHA, FIAPSM, FAMS, Department of Community Medicine, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, has the distinction of being an erudite teacher, distinguished scientist and eminent Public Health Expert. At BHU he has been Head of the Department, Community Medicine and Coordinator, Centre for Population Education, Research and Extension (CPERE) for 3 years (2011-2014). He has contributed significantly in fostering medical education, academic growth of the discipline, human resource development and medical research as well as health system development by serving as expert for national and international consultation groups. For his epidemiological insights and analytical abilities, he has served as member of expert committee of DANIDA, ICMR, WHO, UNICEF, European Commission, etc.  During his illustrious carrier he supervised 17 MDs and 11 PhDs and served as Investigator for 20 projects funded by national and international organizations. He has 150 publications in national and international journals and 4 chapters in text books and authored 12 scientific reports. In recognition to his extra ordinary contribution to the subject, he has distinguished himself as Fellow of Indian Public Health Association, Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine and National Academy of Medical Sciences, India.

His research inputs have significant policy implications. Some significant innovations are: (a) Concept of critical period of growth of under-fives, (b) Communication approach through village social functionaries and front line personnel. (c) Promoting Primary Health Care through Traditional Healers, (d) Evolving methodologies for assessing comprehensive performance of Primary Health Centers, (f) Promoting ‘at risk’ concept of child health and (g) Evolving a comprehensive scoring system for ‘HEEADSSS’ approach for adolescents by WHO. (h) Linking energy balance and nutritional status. (i) Conceptualizing problems of NCDs and body image at micro level and evolving strategies for capacity building of adolescent girls and ensuring nutrition and food security. He served as Secretary General of Indian Association of Preventive &Social Medicine for 3 years (April 2013- March 2016). He has made significant contribution in art and science of writing papers by occupying various editorial positions of National and International Journals. Currently he is the Chief Editor of Indian Journal of Preventive and Social Medicine as well as Member of Governing Board of Institute of Professional Studies, University of Allahabad.

He has been bestowed with Dr. Vijay Narayan Award (1988), Dr. PC Sen Award (1989), Prof. BC Srivastava Foundation Award (1990), Prof. JS Mathur Oration Award (1994), Dr. J.K. Sehgal Oration Award (2010), Dhanvantari Oration Award (2012), Dr. Harcharan Singh Oration Award (2017) and Dr. JE Park Oration Award (2017).
