Topic – Global Health Challenges of the 21st Century: Linking Lifestyle with Non Communicable Diseases
Dr. Snigdha Misra is a Nutritionist by training and is currently based in Malaysia. She is the Head, Department of Nutrition & Dietetics at the International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
She has completed her education in India. She obtained her Masters degree from Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, in 1991 and completed her MPhil from the same university, in 1992. She worked at Odisha, an eastern state in India and established the department of Home Science with Nutrition as a priority in 2 colleges in the state. She worked as a faculty, at the Aeronautics College, Sunabeda, in the state of Odisha, before pursuing her doctoral studies. Being trained as a Nutritionist, she embarked upon her journey of doctoral studies . She has worked on the Nutritional status of the Bangladeshi migrants in eastern India. Her PhD thesis also focused on the the food anthropology of the tribal population, displaced by the Bangladeshi migrants in that area.
After receiving her PhD, Dr. Snigdha had an opportunity to relocate to Malaysia. She worked at the Management & Science University , Shah Alam, Malaysia and developed the Bachelor in Nutrition Programme. She later moved on to the International Medical University in 2010. Dr. Snigdha has been in her current position as the Head of Department, since 2014.
Her main area of research interest is in Public Health Nutrition. She is currently working on malnutrition across the life span. Some of her specific research areas are in micronutrients, Glycemic Index,Nutrition for the Elderly, eating behavior and metabolic syndrome.
She is currently working on a project- Improving the appetite of the elderly through application of Umami, which earned her team a Silver Award for the Best Community Programme at the 9th Annual Global CSR Summit & Awards and the Global Good Governance Awards 2017 held in Langkawi, Malaysia.
As a faculty for past 23 years, she has been an academic par excellence. She has been a research mentor for many students as well. She is actively engaged in improving the life of the community through a healthy lifestyle. She is a Life Member of Nutrition Society of Malaysia and Nutrition Society of India too.

Doctorate degree holder in Public Health Major in Preventive Care with 24 cumulative experience as a Clinical Cardiac Nurse at Malaysia National Heart Center, a Clinical Educator at Ago Foundation College in Naga City, Philippines; part-time Lecturer at University College Sedaya (UCSI) in Malaysia; Health Director at Malaysia Adventist Mission, as well as proponent of Preventive Health programs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Graduated Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP), Masters in Nursing in Monash University, Australia (Kuala Lumpur Campus); Certified Preventive Health Educator from Pacific Health Education Centre, Bakersfield California, USA; completed Doctorate Degree in Public Health major in Preventive Care at the Adventist University of the Philippines. Currently Department Chair of the Public Health Department in AUP.
